Hotel II Castillas Madrid Review: Rooms & Location

Looking for a centrally located hotel in Madrid? I stayed at Hotel II Castillas Madrid for one night during my Spain trip in September 2026. Its walkable location near Gran Vía and Puerta del Sol was the biggest advantage, and the surprisingly quiet twin room made it a comfortable stop before continuing our journey.

Hotel II Castillas Madrid: Quick Facts

Address: Calle de la Abada 7, central Madrid, Spain.
Stay: One night, two guests, twin room, September 2026.
Breakfast: Included in our reservation.
Reception: Staffed around the clock during our stay.
Price paid: Approximately KRW 570,000 for one night, during an unusually expensive Formula 1 event period. This is not a typical nightly rate.

Location: Easy to Explore Madrid on Foot

The hotel’s central location was the reason it worked so well for our short visit. Gran Vía, Puerta del Sol, shops and restaurants were within walking distance, so we could spend our limited time sightseeing rather than commuting. The surrounding streets were busy with pedestrians, and we felt comfortable walking around.

We arrived from Madrid airport using the Airport Express bus (route 203) to Cibeles, then walked approximately 20 minutes to the hotel. Although manageable on a map, pulling luggage over uneven pavements in the heat was tiring. If you’re arriving with large suitcases, consider a taxi for the final stretch.

First Impressions: Lobby and Reception

Traditional hotel lobby with blue sofas and carved wood ceiling

The hotel has a traditional, warm interior with carved wooden details, decorative ceilings and comfortable seating. It felt more classic than modern, but the lobby was welcoming and there was a staffed reception desk.

Our Twin Room: Simple, Practical and Quiet

Twin bedroom with wooden desk and blue bedspreads

Our twin room was straightforward rather than luxurious, with two single beds, a wooden desk, seating and storage. There was enough room for the two of us to settle in for a short stay. The beds were comfortable, and despite the hotel’s busy central location and an elevator near our room, we were pleasantly surprised by how quiet it was at night.

The room’s window faced an internal staircase area rather than a picturesque Madrid street. If a city view matters to you, check the room type before booking. For us, the central location and a good night’s sleep mattered more.

Minibar and In-Room Facilities

Minibar fridge containing bottled drinks

There was a small minibar refrigerator with bottled drinks, but the contents were chargeable rather than complimentary. We also saw a room-service menu. Check the current prices before ordering, as menus and minibar charges can change.

Bathroom: Larger Than Expected

Bathroom with bidet bathtub and double sinks

One of the pleasant surprises was the spacious bathroom. It had a bathtub with shower, a separate bidet and two sinks, which made getting ready as a couple convenient. The bathroom was clean and functional during our stay.

Breakfast at Hotel II Castillas

Breakfast was included in our booking and was served in the basement dining area. During our stay, breakfast ran from around 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The buffet offered coffee, tea, toast, butter, jam, scrambled eggs, sausages, bacon, cheese, ham, salami, pastries, cereal, fruit, yogurt and juice. It was a satisfying and practical start to our travel day, though travelers should confirm current hours and inclusions with the hotel.

Checkout and Practical Tips

Checkout was straightforward at reception: we returned our key and would have settled any minibar charges if we had used them. The location is especially convenient for travelers planning to explore central Madrid on foot, but the walk from the airport bus stop with luggage is worth considering.

Pros and Cons of Hotel II Castillas Madrid

What we liked: Excellent central location, convenient sightseeing on foot, comfortable beds, quiet room, spacious bathroom and a useful included breakfast.
What could be better: The room looked dated, the window view was unremarkable, the minibar cost extra, and the event-period room rate was unusually high.

Is Hotel II Castillas Madrid Worth Staying At?

For a short Madrid stay focused on sightseeing, I would consider Hotel II Castillas again at a reasonable rate. It is not a design hotel, but it offered the essentials we wanted: a walkable location, a clean room, a quiet night and breakfast before departure. If you value views or modern interiors more than convenience, compare other hotels before booking.
